About Me and this Blog

Welcome.

Hi! My name is Katharina. Like many of you, I am not a full-time traveller. I have a hypothetical 9 to 5 job and work in the heart of London. I also go through the tedious experience of commuting every day. Most of my income is spent in rent and English weather is one of my favourite complaints.

Seeing this, it would be easy to get caught into routine – But the truth is, routine is not really my thing.

I am active, curious and spontaneous. I hardly ever know where I will be or what I’ll be doing 2 weeks away from now – let alone 2 years. Since completing my Master in Finance in 2009, I have lived in Switzerland, Spain and the UK. In the same time, I have been trekking in Patagonia, climbing the Great Wall of China, scuba diving in Fernando de Noronha and hiking glaciers in New Zealand. All of this without quitting my full-time job.

While travel is my priority, I also enjoy spending my weekends exploring London’s neighborhoods, trying out gastropubs and restaurants and seeking new experiences.

Adventure is a state of mind.

It doesn’t require large amounts of time or money, but curiosity, enthusiasm and an open mind. Stepping out of our comfort zone and being eager to try something new, failing miserably and getting up to to try it again.

100 Miles Highway is where I share my adventures in expat life, travel and developing a global career.

And now the legal bit.

All pictures on this blog are copyright of 100 Miles Highway and taken by me (unless otherwise noted). I use my Fujifilm FinePix S9600 and Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W290 most of the time, and occasionally post photos taken from my iPhone or scanned pictures of my Lomo Diana F+. Please ask for permission before using and/or distributing these photos and always provide a link and citation back to the image.

This blog is my hobby, not my business. I do not make a living out of it. This blog is ad-free. I am happy to review relevant products by invitation, but will make my own mind up on whether to recommend them or not. I will always let my readers know if I got a free sample, meal or stay at the end of the post. Being this a non-commercial site, my integrity comes first.

Your blog is one of my favorite wine & chocolate kind of night reads. I’ve particularly enjoyed your London posts because I’m thinking about moving there one day (I’m in the US now but I have a German passport so the move would be easy). Your style of writing makes me want to explore the world more.
Great posts Katherina! Keep it up!

Nice to find another travel blog worth following. I touch on travel too, though mainly as a feature of my bucket list… What’s your favourite place that you’ve been to so far?

    Hi Katherina,

What a wonderful site you have! I’m inspired by how you’ve managed to live in so many different places in a short amount of time! I think your story adds a different (and much needed) perspective since you’re showcasing how to factor in travel whilst still holding down a dayjob! Travelling full-time is inspiring but it’s equally inspiring to see you balancing both travel and work! :D I don’t think the latter gets enough coverage sometimes in the blogging world!

Settling in to read your archives now! Thanks for sharing your journey (:
