Hello! Welcome to 100 Miles Highway. Thanks for stopping by.
If you’re new here – don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS Feed, follow me on Twitter and/or like me on Facebook.
My name is Katherina. I was born and raised in the Canary Islands, Spain, and inherited my mother’s curiosity and globe trotting spirit. My wanderlust took me to complete my studies in Valencia, Madrid and an University hub near Stuttgart, in Germany. I moved to Lausanne, Switzerland for my first job and now, after two years, have been transfered to London, UK.
I work for an international trading company by day, and explore my city/region and its eateries by night. Whenever my job requires and/or allows it – I do what I’d call short-term travel (up to 3 weeks on a row). Traveling has become a passion. And by traveling, I do not only mean visiting a country as a tourist, but also moving somewhere new to me and yet to be explored, for a longer (or even indefinite!) period of time. For me, one can only truly immerse in a new culture after a longer period of time – after having passed all the highs and lows of expat life.
In April 2010, I started blogging at 100 Miles Highway – right before taking a three week vacation to visit Sydney and road-trip across New Zealand. Ever since, I’ve traveled to Uruguay, Buenos Aires, Cuba, NY and some of Europe’s biggest and smaller cities – and hopefully there will be many more to come!.
To read more about myself and my thoughts on traveling and expat life, I’d suggest to start with the following:

About 100 Miles Highway
1. The Layout
Besides traveling, I am also passionate about good food. I combine both of these passions by making the food experience part of my travels. 100 Miles Highway started as a personal travel journal. But soon I realized that I couldn’t blog about the sights and attractions of a city or country, without mentioning the local cuisine. For me, food is an important part of travel adventure.
This being said, it’s easier to guide you through the blog layout.
On the right side, you will find 4 Main Categories:
Some posts may fall into more than one category. For example, if I post a Photo Essay about my weekend in Ibiza, it be stores both, in Traveling the World and Me & My Camera.
On the top of the website, you will always find the following pages:
- Home. This one takes you back to the main page, displaying the newest blog posts.
- About. Ehem, so that’s where we are at this moment.
- Around the World. This page shows each of my location specific blog posts on a World map. All you need to do is zoom in the area of interest and click on one of the markers to access the post of interest.
- Gallery. My love for photography has been constantly growing over the last few months. I use this space to share some of my favorite collections.
- Archives. A dirty way to dig into my past.
- Bucket List. All the cool kids have one, and this is mine.
- Featured. 100 Miles Highway isn’t the only place in the web where you can find me!
Too much information and not sure where to start with? You can always hop on to my chosen Links for the 7 Links Project, and make your way from there!
2. Photography
All pictures on this blog are copyright of 100 Miles Highway and taken by me, Katherina (unless otherwise noted). I use my Fujifilm FinePix S9600 and Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W290 most of the time, and occasionally post scanned pictures of my Lomo Diana F+. Please ask for permission before using and/or distributing these photos and always provide a link and citation back to the image.
3. Advertising
This blog is my hobby, not my business. I do not make money out of it – if I ever consider it, I’ll let you know.
However, I’m happy to review relevant product samples, restaurants and accommodation by invitation but I will make my own mind up on whether to recommend them or not. I will always let my readers know if I got a free sample, meal or stay at the end of the post. Being this a non-commercial site, my integrity comes first.
